With the race being so close to my home, I had two major bonuses. Firstly, I had a support crew of family and some of my closest friends in the crowd, supporting and encouraging me throughout the race. Secondly, I had an opportunity to compete in the same race as my Dad in his first ever Ironman! Ironman is such a demanding event and having the support of the people you love and who know the amount of hard work that goes into the preparation is huge. I cannot thank them enough for all their support on the day and over my whole career.
In the lead up to the event, I was able to help Dad plan out his training, his nutrition for race day and I also did my best to provide insight into the mental side of completing an Ironman. We even did some swim sessions together which were a lot of fun. He did really well and finished in a little over 13 hrs. It was great to be there supporting him over the last half of the marathon with the rest of the Tassie crew. I even made it back just in time to present him with his finisher’s medal. So happy that we were able to share that moment.
