WORLD 70.3 CHAMPIONSHIPS – Mont Tremblant, Canada

Mont Tremblant was the perfect venue for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships and it was witness to the most competitive race I have ever been a part of.  Each year the field keeps getting deeper and faster and this year was no exception. The challenging course didn’t even help to slow the competition down.  There were some fast splits posted, with swim times of 22 minutes, ride times of 2:04 and an amazing run by Gomez of 1:09, showing just how fast 70.3 racing has become.

Personally, I put together my best performance over all three disciplines and this was good enough for 6th place.  I feel my swim and ride have come a long way since last year’s worlds in Vegas, the problem is so has everyone else’s! I tried in vain to break up the front group on the bike and although I might have softened a few legs along the way, the running class of Gomez and Frodeno was on another level.  I have come away from this race with only positive thoughts and excited to see what Kona brings in 5 weeks time.  Thank you to my soon to be wife Sage, her Mum and Mark Andrews from Trek for all their support.  Congratulations to the event organizers for putting on a great show, the volunteers and sponsors for making the event possible.
